COMPARE SPECTRA S1 VS SPECTRA S9 PLUS HOW TO
If anyone is interested in how to do this, feel free to PM me. The PIS is the weakest of the pumps, but it certainly gets the job done, so don't let the S9 dissuade you if portability is the highest priority.ĪLSO, you can turn any of these pumps portable without having to buy the S1 or Freestyle versions of both. As for the difference between the S2 and the S9, that's a matter of personal preference. With a PIS, if you want a high suction power you're also stuck with the faster pumps per second as well because they're tied together and when one is increased, so is the other.Īll in all I would personally recommend a Spectra because of the strength of the pump and also because of being able to have more control over the settings. I can also set very short pump intervals at any range of suction power to simulate nursing during letdown (like when a hungry baby first nurses). For example, on my S2 I can set the pumps per second to very low (much like a tired baby who's nursing), but with a very high suction power. Also, the Spectra pumps allow for independent control of both the suction power AND the pumps per second, while the PIS has both of these settings tied together on one dial. It's a closed system pump (PIS is not) so it can both be safely resold or reused by another person at a later date and I don't have to worry about milk back-flowing into the system.

I've purchased both the S2 and the PIS in the past and I can honestly say I prefer the S2. So the Spectra S1 and S2 create the strongest vacuum and the S9 is the second strongest out of these options. When comparing the max suction power of each pump: I was also looking at the Spectra S2 and have heard great reviews and that it's one of the quietest pumps out there. So that's the plan I'm leaning towards right now.īut my sister suggested taking advantage of the fact that insurance will cover one and buying a fancier one with the insurance and just buying the Spectra S9 myself if I want one. At my 2nd job I'm a bartender (and the only one working at a time) and while my boss said she will come into to give me brakes if need be, the idea that I could possibly still at least handle the drive through liquor store window, etc, while pumping would be hugely convenient. I have two jobs and a bit of a crazy schedule so the idea of having a portable pump I can slip into my pocket while using freemies is appealing even if it won't be discreet enough I want to use it in front of people.

So I was initially thinking I'd take my sister's old Medela and buy the accessories for that out of pocket and then use my insurance to get a small Spectra S9 that I can use at work, in the car, etc with freemies and then use the more "powerful" Medela at home in the evenings and on weekends. Surprisingly I found out that my insurance will also cover a double electric pump! My sister is planning on giving me her old Medela, but that said it is older and has been used for 2 kids already.
